A distinctive contemporary design created by Mohamad Alkhayat and handcrafted in my workshop in Damascus, Syria, this pedestal side table reflects a personal interpretation of the city’s renowned mother-of-pearl inlay tradition. It brings together heritage craftsmanship and modern architectural form in a piece that is both functional and sculptural.
The table features intricate mother-of-pearl inlay carefully set into richly toned wood, executed with precision and attention to detail in my Damascus workshop. Each inlay element is individually placed by hand, highlighting the natural iridescence of the shell against the depth of the wood and celebrating the enduring decorative arts of Syria in a fresh, contemporary expression.
Its sculptural silhouette is defined by clean geometric lines and balanced proportions, giving the piece a strong architectural presence. Two tiers of natural marble base provide elegant, durable surfaces that contrast beautifully with the warmth of the inlaid wood, adding refinement, practicality, and visual lightness.
Every stage of the making process is carried out with care in my Damascus workshop, from woodworking and inlay to final finishing. The result is a unique piece that reflects both traditional Syrian craftsmanship and my own contemporary design vision.
